Ukrainian defenders liberated Klishchiivka, the strategic settlement in the east of Ukraine
The settlement in the Donetsk region was retaken due to the successful counteroffensive actions of the 80th Separate Air Assault Brigade, 5th Separate Assault Brigade, and the United Assault Brigade of the National Police of Ukraine “Liut”.
“The settlement of Klishchiivka was officially liberated from [Russian – ed.] occupiers today. Now we have gained a bridgehead for ourselves, which will allow us to continue to develop offensive actions and liberate our land from the occupiers,” reported Illia Yevlash, Head of the Press Service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, during a national telethon on September 17, 2023.
According to Yevlash, the liberation of Klishchiivka will give Ukrainian units, first of all, control over the logistical routes by which the Russian army supplies their military units in the temporarily occupied city of Bakhmut.
“In addition, this is the exposure of the flanks, in particular, the southern one, which will allow us to advance more conveniently deep into the enemy’s ranks and deliver more accurate and deeper fire strikes using various artillery systems,” added the Head of the Press Service of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Over the last week, Ukrainian defenders took back about 2 square kilometers on the Bakhmut axis, reported Hanna Maliar, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, on September 18, 2023. Since the beginning of the counteroffensive, Ukrainian forces have liberated about 51 square kilometers from Russian occupation in the area of Bakhmut.
In the south of Ukraine, Ukrainian forces keep advancing on the Melitopol axis and have success in the area south and east of Robotyne in the Zaporizhzhia region, consolidating their positions.
Over the past week, Ukrainian defenders liberated about 5,2 square kilometers from Russian occupation in the southern direction. In total, since the start of the offensive operation, about 261,7 square kilometers were taken back under Ukrainian control in this direction.
At the same time, Russian forces kept conducting offensive actions on the Bakhmut, Kupiansk, Avdiivka, and Marinka axes in the east of Ukraine but did not succeed.
