Russia launched an aerial assault on Kyiv for the third night in a row
Kyivans withstood the 18th Russian massive air attack in May as Russia had stepped up its assaults on Kyiv.
On May 30, Russian troops attacked Ukraine again with Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 drones. The enemy’s main target was the capital city of Kyiv. 29 out of 31 enemy UAVs were destroyed by Ukrainian defenders in the sky over Kyiv.
Several city districts, Darnytskyi, Pecherskyi, Holosiivskyi, in particular, Podilskyi, and Sviatoshynskyi, suffered from the night’s attack. Debris from downed drones hit five residential buildings and several cars. In the Holosiivskyi district, a fire broke out in a multi-storey building, two floors were destroyed. One person was killed, and 7 more were injured.
In May, Russia attacked Kyiv with drones and missiles almost every day.
On May 29, Russia launched several attacks with UAVs, land-based ballistic, and cruise missiles. More than 30 Iranian-made Shahed-136/131 drones and almost 50 enemy missiles in different regions of Ukraine, including Kyiv, were shot down.
The day before, on May 28, the Ukrainian capital repelled the largest drone attack since the start of the full-scale war. Ukrainian defenders destroyed 58 enemy UAVs out of 59, more than 40 of them – over the capital. Explosions echoed across the city for nearly five hours until the last drone disappeared from Ukrainian radar. During these attacks on Kyiv, at least one person was killed and another two injured.
Ukraine’s complex air defense network has demonstrated its proficiency in intercepting Russian targets, effectively shooting down numerous drones and missiles. Moreover, earlier this month, Ukrainian air defense forces managed to shoot down the Russian air ballistic missile “Kinzhal” with the Patriot system for the first time. Nearly every assault in May was thwarted by Ukrainian defenders, but they still caused destruction and casualties among civilians.
