Yevhenii Staffovych fights in the war against Russia with a prosthetic leg

The Ukrainian defender with the call sign “Staff” suffered a severe injury on the battlefield in the east of Ukraine in 2014. Nevertheless, Yevhenii returned to service and has defended his homeland from the Russian invasion since February 24, 2022.

“Staff was one of our first severely wounded soldiers. It happened near Marinka (a city in the Donetsk region – ed.) in July 2014,” recalls volunteer Oksana Korchynska.

That day, the seriously wounded soldier was sent to Volnovakha instead of Kurakhove in the Donetsk region. Nearby, in the city of Mariupol, there was no vascular surgeon available. Due to the sustained injury, part of Yevhenii’s leg was amputated, and he was given little chance of survival. Later, during his recovery, Zhenia (short for Yevhenii – ed.) received a poorly made prosthetic device.

However, “Staff” didn’t sit around and started his own enterprise to help his country. “During these years, Staff has set up a workshop for repairing military equipment and also has developed new types of technology and tank improvements,” says Oksana Korchynska.

Despite all the difficulties, Staffovych could return back to his service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Since February 24, 2022, Yevhenii has been defending Ukraine again, participating in hostilities near Kyiv, the Kharkiv region, and in the east of Ukraine.

His story was told by hromadske.
