Medics successfully removed an unexploded grenade from the body of an injured Ukrainian soldier

Ukrainian surgeons performed a unique surgery on a wounded serviceman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. They took an unexploded VOG grenade out of the soldier’s chest.
The medics operated in the presence of two sappers who ensured the safety of the medical personnel due to the risk of grenade detonation, wrote Hanna Maliar, Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, on her Facebook page.
“It’s a shock. Pleasant. Not every wound in the heart area is fatal!” Maliar emphasized.

“This difficult and dangerous surgery was performed by one of the most experienced surgeons of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrii Verba. The surgical procedure was performed without electrocoagulation, as the grenade could detonate at any moment. The operation was successful, and the wounded serviceman was sent for further rehabilitation and recovery,” the official said.
She also published a photo of the brave surgeon and an X-ray showing a grenade in the soldier’s body.
