Three rescuers and a civilian were killed in repeating Russian drone attacks on Kharkiv
On the night of April 4, Russia targeted Kharkiv with UAVs. Due to an enemy attack on civil infrastructure, at least 12 people were injured, and four more were killed.
Among the dead victims are three rescuers who arrived at the scene to eliminate the consequences and came under repeated drone attacks.
In the Novobavarskyi district of Kharkiv, four Russian UAVs damaged residential buildings, shops, trade pavilions, pharmacies, cars, and a medical institution. There was a direct hit on the 14-story residential building: floors 8 to 12 were affected.
12 people were injured: a rescue worker, a policeman, a nurse, and nine residents. A 68-year-old woman, as well as three rescuers, were killed, reported Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
“Lohinov Vladyslav, Baidalinov Serhii, Matiushenko Volodymyr – Kharkiv rescuers who were cynically killed by Russia today. With a targeted repeated strike when they were saving people. Not being combatants, the rescuers were attacked by enemy drones. The Russian Federation continues to ignore the norms of international law,” commented Ihor Klymenko, Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
Russia also attacked the Kharkiv region that night: local energy infrastructure facilities were hit. In total, on April 4, Russia targeted Kharkiv and the region with 20 Shahed-131/136 UAVs. Ukrainian defenders successfully shot down 11 of them.
Over the past weeks, Russia has been actively shelling critical facilities in Kharkiv: currently, almost all of the energy infrastructure in the city has been destroyed. In particular, during the largest attack on the Ukrainian energy system on March 22, Russian forces destroyed all transformer substations in Kharkiv and severely damaged the Kharkiv Thermal Power Plant (TPP-5).
