“I am appalled by the news that a hotel frequently used by United Nations personnel and our colleagues from NGOs supporting people affected by the war has been hit by a Russian strike in Zaporizhzhia shortly ago (…) It was the UN base for the operation to evacuate civilians from the Azovstal plant in Mariupol in May last year,” commented Denise Brown, Humanitarian UN Coordinator for Ukraine.
She also added that the number of indiscriminate Russian attacks hitting civilian infrastructure, killing and injuring Ukrainian civilians, has reached unimaginable levels. According to the Humanitarian UN Coordinator, Russia must “comply with their obligations under international humanitarian law and immediately stop indiscriminate attacks on Ukraine”.
Over the past day, Russian invaders carried out 92 artillery and air strikes on 23 settlements in the Zaporizhzhia region. Ukrainian law enforcement officers received 51 reports about the destruction of residential buildings, outbuildings, and social infrastructure objects.
