Russia attacked Ukraine with 59 missiles and UAVs

The enemy targeted critical, industrial and civil infrastructure facilities in the Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Khmelnytskyi regions. As a result of the massive air strike, there is destruction, as well as casualties among civilians. At least four Ukrainian citizens were killed and 45 more were injured, reported Volodymyr Zelenskyy, President of Ukraine.

“On January 8th, Russia once again launched a massive attack against Ukraine and our people (…) Russia is a terrorist state that must be held accountable for its crimes,” commented the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on X (Twitter).

In particular, Russian troops hit Kryvyi Rih in the Dnipropetrovsk region. A shopping center and more than two dozen private houses were damaged. In addition, a private house was destroyed in the Lozuvatska community of the Kryvyi Rih district. In the city of Novomoskovsk, an explosive wave flipped a bus passing by. Three administrative buildings, two gas stations, a five-story building, and a car were damaged in the city. A total of 31 people were injured in the region, including four children, informed Serhii Lysak, Head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration.

Russian forces also shelled Kharkiv and the region, in particular, the city of Zmiiv in the Chuhuiv district. As a result of the enemy attack, civilian objects were damaged, including an enterprise, an educational institution, and a private house. At least one person was killed, and three others were wounded, reported Oleh Syniehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.

In the Khmelnytskyi region, due to Russian airstrikes, residential buildings were damaged and their windows shattered. Two Ukrainian citizens were killed due to an enemy attack, informed Serhii Tiurin, Head of the Khmelnytskyi Regional Military Administration.

Update: As a result of rescue operations, one more dead person was found under the rubble. In total, due to the Russian air attack, 3 people were killed and 2 more were injured, said Oleksandr Symchyshyn, Mayor of Khmelnytskyi.

Furthermore, Russia targeted Zaporizhzhia with five missiles. Multi-storey buildings and private houses suffered destruction. At least five people were injured and hospitalized, one of them is in serious condition, reported Yurii Malashko, Head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration.

In total, during a massive attack on Ukraine, Russian troops used 8 Shahed-136/131 drones, 7 anti-aircraft-guided missiles S-300/S-400, 4 aeroballistic missiles Kh-47M “Kyndzhal”, 24 cruise missiles Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55, 8 cruise missiles Kh-22, 6 ballistic missiles Iskander-M, as well as guided air missiles 2 Kh-31P. As the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported, Ukrainian defenders managed to shoot down 8 Shahed-136/131 drones and 18 enemy cruise missiles.

In the first eight days of 2024, Russia has launched about 125 missiles and more than 400 airstrikes on different regions of Ukraine, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In particular, the massive Russian air attack on Ukraine on the morning of January 2, resulted in at least seven people being killed and 119 more injured.
