The Russian occupiers wanted to deport a 12-year-old girl orphaned by the war, Kira Obedinska, to Russia. Russians killed her father Yevhen on March 17 in an airstrike in Mariupol.
The girl’s grandfather Oleksandr, an esteemed water polo coach, is waiting for her in Ukraine. He was evacuated to Chernivtsi, a city in western Ukraine, and wants his granddaughter back. The Head of the Donetsk regional military administration, Pavlo Kyrylenko, reported on Kira’s situation.
Kira is currently in Donetsk, a territory occupied by Russia in 2014. Russian soldiers deported Kira and the people she was hiding with in a bomb shelter. It is reported that the Russians confiscated documents from every adult with Kira. They promised to make new Russian documents to eventually move them to the territory of the Russian Federation.
